What exactly is skin to skin?

When I had my first, delivered vaginally & wore a hospital gown.

As soon as she was birthed, they placed her on my chest but I was still wearing a hospital gown.

I know people say to try to breastfeed right away & skin to skin ..but what is that exactly? Baby naked? Me completely topless? Baby in diaper?

Baby's skin against your skin. Baby can be naked or in a diaper. You don't have to be totally topless. You can do it with one breast and most of your chest exposed.

I believe baby in diaper then you put baby inside your gown up against your bare chest. My hospital called it kangaroo care.

Skin to skin can also be done with dad/partner and is a nice way for them to bond too! So, if you had to have a c-section, or needed a rest, or SO just wanted to join in the fun, he/she could do skin-to-skin.

Skin to skin is ur babys skin (naked, or in a diaper) up against ur naked skin..usually ur chest so they can hear heart.

Dads can do it too.....but apparently babies prefer to be near moms chest, because they recognise your heartbeat from being inside your tummy.  They like to be up near dads neck (because they recognise the vibrations from his voice box from when they've heard. his voice in the womb).
