Women who fake pregnancy.

I have a friend who just spent the last 8 months lying to me and to everyone in her life about being pregnant. I look back now and I guess there were "warning signs"-like she would complain about how alone she would feel going to the doctor's by herself because the father wasn't in the picture and I would offer to go with her and she always had an excuse as to why I shouldn't or the appointments would be cancelled last minute. But I truly deeply care about this person and just never thought anything of it. She went on vacation for a week and came back saying she had went into early labor and the baby was still born. Of course this raised so many questions amongst all her family and friends which led to the truth coming to light. But it got me thinking because I am struggling to wrap my brain around it all... What possesses a woman to do this- attention seeking, mental disorder? I'm trying to understand her and why she could be so deceiving for so long-especially knowing that I myself had a true pregnancy loss not long ago.
