Why do people create fake profiles?

So it's happened time and time again on every forum app that I've used. People create fake profiles using pictures they find on google and make up stories about their lives.

I always wondered why people do it and what they get out of it. Any thoughts, ladies?  Do you think they try to recreate themselves? Do you think it is possible to stop them from doing it? Do you think they should be stopped?  What should the penalty be?

I really don't see the harm in people creating fake profiles. Are they hurting others with the profile? If not, let them pretend. We've all played dress up, house, and other make-believe games as children, we know it's fun to be someone or something you're not.
Yes, at some point it becomes unhealthy, when it does hopefully the person is able to recognize that and then move on. But ultimately, this isn't "real life" on here, and some times you just need to pretend to be someone else for a while.

I've wondered if some people on here have multiple profiles. Like, sometimes you see the same "person" constantly backing up one individual using similar writing. I don't know, it seems like a waste of time for such a trivial cause.

Stealing pictures is creepy, though. I often wonder why users are so quick to post pictures of themselves and their kids. I saw a topic on here once where someone asked people to post their sexy panties. In minutes, all these girls posted pictures of their backsides in lace and thongs. Like, really?

Anyways, I don't think there can be a penalty unless Glow/Nurture specifically disallows duplicate profiles or profiles with plagiarized pics.

I think these new updates to make it easier to "stalk" an individual user.

I find it annoying because even though I don't agree with a lot of people here, most of them stand by their opinions and beliefs which I very much respect.

Creating fake accounts is like a free pass to abuse anyone without an identity. As good as anonymous.

I don't mind the fake names/ pictures for security reasons. If your purpose of creating an account is for trolling, that is when I have a problem

I know a few fake profiles in CC. If we can call out users, I would be happy to share who they are. 😉

Some people have an anxiety about people getting stalkerish.  I dont think there should be a penalty because honestly, its not hurting anyone. Unless they do illegal things or flat out rude there shouldnt be a penalty

They need attention anyway they can get it! Also if the account is fake they can freely say things they would not normally say and do things out of their norm without reprocussions because they can just log out.

Because they're unhappy with their own lives, probably.  I don't know who would have the time or effort to have multiple lives like that lol.

People are bored.  They have nothing outside their little personas on the net and they tend to be a little bitter.  So they turn into trolls.  I imagine most trolls are just very lonely people.
