How Can I Overcome Homophobia?
Ladies, this is a legitimate question and a very sincere concern of mine. I'd like to know if anyone has suggestions, some thoughts on how I can address what I see as a problem in myself.
My mother raised me in a very religious environment, and I've been told since childhood that to be hay or lesbian is absolutely wrong. As I got older, this thinking became very hard for me to process. I mean, as a Christian we are taught to be welcoming to all and to treat all well as people and equal. So how can I do that and believe that same-sex preference is morally wrong?
And now with the Supreme Court decision I'm even more perplexed. I truly feel like something is wrong with me and I want to fix it. I have gay and lesbian friends, but I admit we don't hang out a lot because it makes me uncomfortable. But they're such sweet people! That's not fair of me, but I can't shake what I've been taught by mother and in church my entire childhood and young adult life.
This post is not about the court decision necessarily. I'd just like help adjusting my thought pattern about the LGBT community and how it aligns (or should? Or not?) With Christianity.
Thanks all. I hope everyone understands why I'm asking, and I'm not out to hurt anyone.
