When to introduce a bottle

Question

My 3 week old is ebf. I want to introduce a bottle at some point so that I can leave the house and my husband could feed her sometimes. When should I try to introduce the bottle? My daughter eats well and latches no problem.

I gave my daughter her first bottle at 6 weeks bc I physically couldn't nurse bc I had surgery in my groin. I could not nurse or hold her it was not happening. She now does both bf and bottle. We use dr Browns bc they were the bottles with the slowest flow I found and she wasn't choking . We still nurse at night and bottle during the day. We don't have any issues switching. Good luck

I gave my baby her first bottle at exactly 2 weeks old , at first she drank it but let milk spill out of her mouth because the nipple hole was I guess too big for her so that same day I gave her milk in a different bottle and she took it very well i've been giving her bottle ever since . At first she would still want to be latches on my boob at least once a day now she's 2 months and doesn't want my boob.

I have found between 3 and 4 weeks to be the sweet spot for introducing a bottle and having good results (ie baby refusing breast or the opposite)
Be sure to give baby a bottle regularly (one every day or every other) to keep up on it otherwise they can start to refuse it after a while.

You could introduce one now inmy opinion, but typically they say 4-6 weeks. If your little one latches well and has no problems, I'm sure it would be fine to have her use a bottle. Just don't wait longer than 6 weeks as your baby may reject the bottle all together haha!

We started when he was a week and a half old, per pedi recommendation since he is gaining weight and he did great!! No nipple confusion, took the bottle like a champ!

I introduced at 2 weeks and have had no issues! He has smooth transitions from bottle to breast! And it's nice to be able to let your loved one feed to give you a break! Good luck!

2-3 week old is ideal. Offer at least 1 bottle a week. So baby continues to take it. It gives you a little freedom & my husband could participate in feeding baby.
