Important papers?

🌸Karaline🐝 • Breathe deeply, tomorrow isn`t yesterday
My MIL is a bit of a control freak. My husband is signing up for the Air Force (just turned in all the paperwork). I told my husband I want a fireproof lock box for all our important papers (birth certificates, SS cards, marriage certificate) before he leaves for basic. He told me his mom wants to hold on to his papers until we get our own place.
Will I need his birth certificate or SS card for anything while he's in basic or technical training? (I'm 14wks pregnant so I'll be using Tricare right away)

As his wife you should have all those documents. Just in case. Also make sure he does a power of attorney for you to handle anything in his name. If your MIL wants thay paperwork maybe she should have copies. But if i were you i would get the original. If they were to need anything, they would not take copies.

That's a great idea! I never thought about copying them!

I am an Army wife and I make sure I have all of those papers on me at all times. I have in a file folder that I take with me when I travel and when I am home they are locked up. You have yo have those papers yo get your ID if you do it after he goes to basic and another good thing yo have is power of attorney just in case something comes up and legal decisions have to be made.

if he has any bank accounts in his name, make sure you take thr POA to the bank so that they will have it on file. i made the mistake of not doing that. and i have USAA and they dont have banks you can just walk in. i had to mail everything in.

Awesome. Best thing we ever did was the POA. I ended up having to buy a new car without him and the POA saved us when it cane yo the loan seeing how his credit is better than mine.
