Need advice: long term relationship needs to end?
Hi everyone, I usually don't like to talk about my relationship online but I need some advice.
I've been dating a man for almost five years, we've been engaged since last October, moved in together in January this year. Before him, I hadn't really had any serious or long-term relationships so I guess I just don't have anything to compare to.
We've had a pretty rough run over the years dealing with family issues (mine doesn't really like him because of petty fights ) and he's had some falling outs with his own family. He lost his job a few months ago due to lack of work in the field but has been trying to get a new job. In the mean time, he's been helping me at home while I'm in college full time.
Anyways, a good number of people in my family think he's no good and is just using me for a meal ticket. They have valid points as far as his history goes, but I think he's come a long way to turning his life around. However, I'm still feeling pressure from my family to get rid of him because "I'll find someone better" who will "treat me how I deserve". I understand that there's other people out there, but I'm not sure I want to go back to being single and alone. Not to mention the fact that I've been building my future with him and I don't know where it'll go with him out of the picture. Especially since we live together and financially I couldn't live by myself, and moving back to my parents isn't an option.
Despite his past and flaws, I do love him but they don't think he'll ever really change. I don't want to doubt him or my feelings for him but it's becoming difficult to ignore what they're saying. Any thoughts?
