Friends with benefits?

I've never had a fwb relationship and I'm in the position to be in one but I don't know exactly how I feel about it yet, and I wanted opinions on these types of relationships? What do you think they mean or are considered to be? Good or bad idea/consequences etc?

Sex only. I've had a FWB and we would always screw around when we were single. But, if either of us got in a relationship we would stop. We've been best friends for 6 years now, and we respect each other. There are definitely feelings that are stronger than just being platonic friends, but we're adults. We know that there are times when you can act on them and when you can't.
I think it's all about respect. We respect each other enough to back off when we need to. We know we will never fall in love or get married, but I know I want him in my life because he's my best friend. Sex never changed our friendship. We will always be apart of each other's families because we're so close.

I would strongly advise you against starting a friends with benefits relationship. Of course there are exceptions and somethimes they strangely turn into something, but most cases end in heartbreak. It is inevitable for one of the "friends" to develop feelings for the other. I am currently in the middle of one of those relationships, and it is hard to let go because you don't want to loose a friend, but you should always put yourself and your happiness first. I would say no thanks and move on to someone who wants to commit.

I agree. I tried this about a year ago and not with the intention of gaining feelings yet it happened. You always say no feelings involved except you can't control it. It'll start off as a fondness and grow from the constant contact. Unless you're emotionally able to detach yourself don't even try.
