Stopped Taking Birth Control

So I stopped taking my birth control a few weeks ago because of some health issues I've been having with my heart and thyroid. I just decided to decrease as many chemicals in my body as possible to see if that's the problem. My question is, has anyone stopped taking their BC and got pregnant pretty quickly afterwards or does it take awhile? My husband is deploying and while we'd love to wait for him to be there for the first kick and first appointment we also think it might be a good time to start growing our family. I'm thinking I waited too long though. Thank you for your input ladies! :)
