Trying to conceive

Uv been on the depo shot for about 4 or 5 years my husband and I are ready to have a baby but I've been reading it could take up to a year before I could or even longer.. Anyone ideas on how I can increase my chances??  I started the shot when I was just about 16 I'm 20 now and my last shot was due on the 14th of August, immediately I started bleeding but it was short and then a week later again the same thing..
