Question

How do I keep my little guy awake to turn around his sleep schedule so he will sleep at night more than the day? Or do I have to just wait for him to figure it out?

I have my little one in a sleep training program that so far has done wonders for the both of us! The key is to follow this schedule: 
1.) Eat 
2.) wake time 
3.) nap
Each morning wake your baby up at 7 am. Feed him/her and then keep them away for 15-30 minutes after you feed them. I usually change their diaper and that's stimulating enough to keep them awake. You want to then lay baby down for a nap as she is awake. Baby will learn how to put herself to sleep. It will be hard at first but they learn fast. Continue this schedule during the day, ensuring that you're waking your baby up every 3 hours to eat. 
Then at night (starting with the late night feed around10-11 pm) you want to put baby to bed right after feeding. You're eliminating the "wake time" step during the night. Allow baby to wake up on her own during the night to feed (meaning, you're not waking her up every 3 hours but allowing her to wake up naturally). Make sure you don't have anything over stimulating at night (example; bright lights, loud noises, talking to baby)
When 7am hits, start your day routine over again.

I will share what has been working for me...I have a 4 week old. During the day we keep her in a room that gets a lot of light. We wake her up every 3 hours to eat even if it seems impossible at times. Now she does this on her own. After we eat dinner, we dim the lights and turn the volume down. She gets changed into pajamas and fed. Then we bring her upstairs to the bedroom when she is asleep. I bathe her first thing in the morning because it's too stimulating for her at night. (Not all babies share in this). At night we use just a nightlight in the nursery and we only change her once so that she doesn't wake up.  We swaddled for about 3 weeks but have found it doesn't help her sleep and actually was waking her up every time we had to reswaddle during feedings. It took her. About 3 weeks to know night from day.

My week old struggled with this as well. We did a little research and saw that swaddling keeps them asleep so keep baby un-swaddled  during the day and play with baby. At night swaddle baby and only un-swaddle to change a diaper. Feeding the baby while swaddled helps keep the atmosphere of night time in place. We also started to keep baby awake for two hours prior to our bed time and then feed right before bed and baby has only waken up 3 times from 10-7. Once for a changing and twice for feeding. It's about creating a routine, and a different atmosphere during the nights. Bath before bed, No talking, playing, goo-ing at night, no lights on, nice & dark. All three of my babies slept through at bang on 9 weeks. I'm hoping similar for my 4 day old. ☺️ good luck.

I use a rock salt lamp in our room all night. Very soft orange glow, no bright lights being turned on. She's two weeks old, maybe it's a fluke- but for the last few days she's been sleeping three hour stretches ( for the most part!). And I agree with the other poster re routine. We feed her, bathe her, then feed again before laying her down.

I open the blinds a bit (enough to let in light, but not so much that direct sunlight touches her) around 4-5 am. The natural light seems to "reset" her clock. I've been doing it for about 4 days and for the last 3 days she's been sleeping in 3 hour stretches at night. I hope it lasts.
