Is my SIL jealous?

This isn't serious, I might be more upset because I am to delivering any day now. As silly as it sounds, my SIL hasn't given us a small gift for her soon to be nephew. It makes me wonder why.

I know she has a hard time learning how to budget with in her means, but a $7-10 item that symbolizes excitement and support sounds reasonable. Right?

I shrugged it off when she didn't give anything at our low key shower. Now I'm about to deliver and I think how much I've invested time, support, tutoring, and money into her son who is 11! We don't need anything now that we've bought the rest of the items. I just wanted her support through a tiny gift.

She is also acting weird about taking care of our dog once we are at the hospital. Asking questions about how she can do it, like she has never been to our home and taken care our dog before. It causes stress on us since she is the closest family we've got.

Is she jealous? Why do some family members not act normal? Agh!!

I am going to nicely add the no one owes you anything regardless of what they did for someone else. Thinking this way only causes bitterness to form.

My SIL when we told her that we are expecting (our first baby) just said "are you sure your pregnant?" To which I replied "yes 3months now. Have an ultrasound too". That was it, no congrats or Im happy for you 😄 but we are not close and I know she doesnt like me. She's my husbands brothers wife so we don't really care about her opinion or excitement.

Maybe it is jealously...now the attention is on you and your new baby and her child is so much old so maybe. I also kinda now what you mean, this is very different but at work my husband shared an office with someone and they ways get each other b-day gifts and Xmas gifts and she didn't get anything for our baby. I just thought it was weird...especially when most everyone else from his work got us something. If she was having a baby...I'd definitely get them something.

Kiiiind of in the same boat. I'm pregnant and my husband and I are ecstatic! But it was sort of an oopsie. Haha, so not planned. Anyway, his brother and sister in law are due at the end of November and I feel like she thinks we're in a competition or something. I was super happy for them and congratulated her and asked her how she was feeling every time I saw her. But when we told them that I was pregnant, she didn't say congratulations. She hasn't asked me one single time how im feeling. She doesn't say hi to me when we see each other. It's so awkward and it makes me feel so shitty. I'm due in March, so she'll give birth a good three and a half months before we have our baby. Idk what to do :/ I was super excited about our kids being so close in age but now I'm not.

Not necessarily, I honestly don't see anything that says jealousy. One of my SILs never even said congrats before/ after having my first ( no call no visit no gift although we saw each other omre than once a week) I could assume anything, later I knew she was simply not interested. And frankly, I am not the kind of person that gets excited when I hear of pregnancy news ( not even mine cuz I immediately start calculate the responsibility I am to handle for the next 18 years or so). Though, I behave in better manners, congratulating smiling and gifting. Pregnancy to me is one of the things that it is what it is. If a friend of mine announced pregnancy, I feel really happy for she is happy not for she is pregnant.

Only if that's a NEW ATTITUDE of hers that her behaviors could mean something. In this case yeaa she might be jealous/ mad (of something u didn't pay attention to) / depressed( so it's hard for her to see beyond her nose), it could be really anything.

I understand completely.  My entire family, excluding my parents never bought a thing for either of my kids before during or after their birth.  They didn't even come to my shower, which I had to plan alone with my mom.  They live a couple of hours away, but that makes no difference when you have months to plan.  And besides a that, they gave the moon to my sister and cousin for their 5 collective babies (2 for my sis and 3 for my cousin).  We've wondered if it was because we're married, that we don't need anything,...I don't really know or care, but it does suck!

She may simply not think the way you do meaning you need to get over this. It's a small thing when you consider the big picture. As far as the dog she may just want to really know what you want her to do. Visiting and seeing the dog and actually doing something with the dog when you are not around may be different for her. I mean this in the nicest way so please don't take it wrong.
