Did you throw your own shower?

Question

I know the etiquette is to have someone else throw your shower for you, but I kind of want it a certain way and feel strange requesting someone host a party for me the way I want it!? Did anyone else just throw their own baby shower for their first child?! Is that allowed?!

My sister did mine for my son. Although I appreciated what she did I hated my shower I didn't enjoy it at all because she wouldn't let me be involved at all so it wasn't how I wanted it. My second I planned by myself

I have never let anyone host my showers, if people ask about it, I'll give them a side job like decorating before people arrive, or setting the food out, or helping find a venue. I'm kind of picky and i find it tacky and weird to ask someone to host a huge party that they don't benefit from. Also, we're having a girl and i swear to god everytime they (my parents) try to buy something, it's hot pink and animal print and i would rather not have one at all than be present at such a tacky event. :S

My mom and dad threw me a baby shower for my first :) I'm 21 weeks pregnant now and me and my boyfriend are throwing our shower because it's for a family get together and we don't expect gifts we just want the whole family there to celebrate our baby boy :)

I was the exact same way and I was planning on just having one big one (we have family and friends spread out in a few different towns but this party would be the mid-way point for most people so it was convenient) and I was going to help my MIL and mom plan it. Then she told me I can't plan my own shower so my mom said that we can have another shower in my hometown and I can plan it and she would help me do it the way I want to <3 I love my mom!

Well, my mom is hosting mine, but I'm super involved in it. I know what I want and just shot my ideas over to her.
