I am happily married, celebrating 8 years in a couple weeks. We were high school sweethearts, we've been friends for 16 years. He is my best friend, However I do have a bff who is a male. He is also married, I have 3 boys with number 4 on the way, he has 1 son. I live in New York he lives in Colorado. I don't see anything wrong with having a best friend who is the opposite sex. You should trust your partner and they should trust you.

Can someone please explain why so many people are saying that your spouse should be your bff like you're not allowed to be friends with anyone else? I don't understand that.

It depends, I've had best friends that are male but once I got married I stopped talking to them often because they seem to be too flirty and I look passed it like it doesn't happen but I leave everything up in the open and a lot of people say it's not right. I mean if the friend isn't flirty and telling you how they can make you happier then sure but if they make those comments it's a friendship better lost than your relationship lost

I don't really see the need. I have bffs that are girls. I don't see the need to become best friends with a guy! And my husband works with men and women but I wouldn't expect him to become best friends with a woman. Friends that are opposite sex are fine but not to hangout with alone! I'm friends with guys that my husband is friends with but I don't text them or want to hangout with them. But if I had a guy bff all my life and my husband was friends with him too then I think it'd be okay. But making new bffs with the opposite sex while you're married is not okay.

My best friends are males, but I call them my brothers because we've been friends since we were all 12. My partner is my only best friend now, everyone else that's been around for 10+ years is family.
