Yeah, her saying "I serve my husband dinner every night and you should too" completely contradicts her statement of "I believe in choice. I believe in acceptance". I get what she's saying: she likes to do these things that make him feel good, and vice versa, he does things to please her. She likes to call this service. Cool. But why keep saying we should all follow her about cooking is beyond me. Unless she's just using it as a metaphor.

My hubby works HARD, so I enjoy serving him. He makes his own meals often though because he doesn't like asking me to do it. But when I have an idea of what he wants I do it for him and thoroughly enjoy it. I love my hubby, and because of that I love serving him. He loves serving me too, in various ways I won't share here. We serve each other and most importantly to us, we both serve the Lord (which helps us have the heart to serve each other). I used to hate the idea of being married. I was super independent, wanted to do everything by myself and for myself. Always saw myself with children but no husband...God said "hehe” and sent me who I believe to be the most awesome man ever. Heck yeah I'll happily serve my hubby! :)

The article was alright, I just don't understand the "and you should too” parts. I think everyone should do what works best for THEIR marriage. Everything that works in other folks’ marriages would NOT work for mine. We are two individuals who have our own taste, styles, opinions, etc and so what suits one couple won't always suit us, and vice versa. I think trying to mimic other peoples’ marriages is a recipe for failure and possible divorce. Take what tips you can, but be wise implementing them.

I did not care for this article. Particularly the superior tone it had. I actually tend to serve my partner similarly. Partly because of culture, but mostly because I enjoy it. I don't think it's superior to any other way of living. I don't think everyone else "needs to". It read to me like a conflicted woman desperately trying to justify her life choices to herself. I'm comfortable with my life choices. I don't need to change anyone else's.

Every couple is different. Just because she's fine with being second to him and not equal doesn't mean I ever will be okay with that because I won't. I am an equal and I will be treated as such. Yeah I'll make whoever my husband is dinner but his grown self can serve himself. I am not a servant. I am a woman who can take of myself. I except the same out of whoever I'm gong to marry.

Yeah the word "serve" gets me too. I'm a sthm and make dinner when he gets home sometimes I make him a plate sometimes he does (he'll return the favor for me as well).

I serve my husband and not because I was raised that way even though I am Hispanic and was raised in a very Hispanic household after my parents divorced. I serve my husband because its the least I could do for all of the hard work he does.

This just sounds daft to me. 'You should serve your husband dinner' (but also make your own choices about what you want to do).
The whole point of her article was that she realised she enjoyed cooking for her husband, she wasn't forcing herself to. I think in most relationships people are happy to do something they enjoy! If she hated doing it she wouldn't be saying this.

If you compared me to my relationship now as to my past relationships you would think I'm two different people. I grew up in a old southern household. Where if you are asked of something you do it. Childern do not speak unless spoken to. I grew up with my mom cleaning cooking doing laundry and even making my dad's plates and giving them to him. Now I have always cooked and cleaned and done my laundry and helped my mom out Starting when I was finally old enough to do those task on my own at all different ages did I start doing those things. But in my past relationships I would cook but I wouldn't make there plates I wouldn't do there laundry. In the relationship I'm in now I do it all pretty much. Except my boyfriend does help me cook sometimes. We are both old southern raised. So we both grew up with that. I do his laundry. He does the stuff with the house but I clean everything. He helps me sometimes but most of the time I do it on my own. One because it was how I was raised two because I'm OCD about things that he just stays out of my way. Lol but I will make him his plate. I also most nights get home before him from work so I have it ready when he gets home because I know he's hungry. It's weird for some but for others it's how they were raised. And I will even say it's different for me but I like doing it. I know I don't have to. He has even told me that but I like to do it. And I look forward to doing it. I love him. I would take a bullet for him so making dinner and serving him at the kitchen table isn't that big a deal to me that's a small thing in the grand scheme of things to me and him. It's the little things that matter the most in this world.
