What would constitue as "Gun Control"?

All this talk of "Gun Control" and "Gun Bans" but I have yet to hear a valid way to protect guns from landing in the wrong hands. Please enlighten me.

Good gun control would be for anyone who wants to ban guns to give up their guns and put a sign in their yard that says a gun free zone.

Background check. Mental health. But heres the thing, this isn't going to do shit because a criminal won't go through all their tests they will find a gun illegally and use it. If not a gun, a bomb, a knife. People need to wake tf up.

I have noticed that most people who say they have countries with strict gun-control are also countries that are very isolated unlike America. Unfortunately a lot of our illegal weapons, drugs, gangs, trouble comes from south of the border so until we can regulate who and what comes over our border you cannot really regulates what happens inside of our borders. As many of said a good example of banning guns are gun-control are examples like Detroit and Chicago what are some of the most violent cities in America and have some of the strictest gun regulations and all of the country. Whereas Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona with the least amount of gun control and have lesser gun related crimes and less it's gang-related. California has pretty decent game controls regulations i.e. there is a 30 day grace period from the time of day you buy the gun to the day you can pick it up with a background check and everything else and then look at LA. Gun-control unfortunately is not going to stop those who are arty doing things illegal dogfighting is a illegal yet it is very prevalent in the southern western states. Trafficking selling doing drugs is a illegal yet how many people still managed to acquire do sell drugs. Most of those guns that are in the mass shootings are required illegally their serial numbers are filed off they are required in ways that no amount of gun regulations would've probably stop them in the first place. How about instead we fix America itself our economy our schools are neighborhoods our way of living actually acknowledge when someone has something mentally wrong with them and get them the help they need.  Gun regulations are only a Band-Aid over the real problem. When ADHD diagnosis are through the roof when troublesome children are shunned in schools when our school systems are so underfunded they only teach enough to pass a state wide test to get funding their lies the real problem.

I think background checks should be required before ALL gun purchases, and a medical history report should be included so that mental health diagnoses and/or medications could disqualify the purchase. I think that in order to be licensed to carry, you should have to complete a class and pass both a written test and shooting test.

There's no point in gun control. Most criminals don't care what the laws are. They won't stop anything. Does making drugs illegal stop drug addicts? If someone wants to commit a crime they are going to do it regardless of how they have to come by there weapon. Gun laws stop people from being able to protect themselves not stop criminals from acquiring guns.

As guns are so entrenched in US culture/identity i think it will be very hard to change, BUT surely you must try!? Any sort of increase in control of access/purchase is worth a try. I'm from the UK and not anti-gun - my dh has a shot gun for hunting, but to get his license he had to apply, so the police could check out his background, health etc, then police visited the house to interview him and understand why he wanted a gun, how he would keep it secure etc.
Of course controls like this wont stop 100% of shootings, and yes other weapons are theoretically available, but its clearly harder to kill multiple people with a knife than with a gun u can fire from a distance?!
I really hope the US can find some way to improve gun safety even slightly

You can't ban guns. I haven't heard any talk about that but it literally wouldn't pass seeing that it's written in the constitution the right to bear arms. As for control, they should Do background checks, mental health screenings, make the person wait an extended period of time before being able to claim a gun.
