Sentenced to Marriage?

If you watch "The Doctors" regularly, you likely know what I'm talking about.

For those who don't:
There was recently a case in Texas where a 21-year-old man, who had got in a "scuffle" with his girlfriends ex-boyfriend, plead guilty to assault with bodily injury.  
In court the judge offered two sentences: 
1) 15 days in jail
OR
2) 2 years of probation...

BUT! Here's the catch!
The second choice, 2 years of probation, had the following conditions:
- write Proverbs 26:27, "If man digs a pit, he will fall into it," 25 times a day.
- get married (to his girlfriend) within 30 days!

What would you do: 15 days in jail or, 2 years probation with conditions?  Thoughts, opinions?

15 days in jail sounds SOOO much better anyways. It's only half a month, and two years on probation sounds awful enough without the marriage and bible stuff.

That seems unconstitutional given the whole separation of church and state and freedom of religion... I'd be appealing to a higher court

I would choose jail. Even if I had every intention of marrying a person I would still choose jail just so that I could be certain that when I would get married it would be for the right reasons. If I took the probation option I would always have a doubt in the back of my mind that I married someone just to avoid jail.

So I read the article and the guy wouldn't have married her if he had been able to give his job notice about going to jail so he wouldn't have gotten fired. At least not then. That judge robbed them of the wedding they wanted.

Ugh. Just another reason for people to look down on Texas because those in government positions act like idiots. Very disheartening. No wonder the Texas stereotype is dumb conservative religious redneck cowboys. I think I'll go punch a wall now.

So this is a show, not real life correct? Real life you cannot force me to write proverbs and get married in exchange for no jail time.
