Lot's of bleeding after sex!!!

I am posting this in multiple communities just to see how many people have experienced this because it was really scary and I'm not sure if this is normal.

Let me start off by saying that my last period was Sept. 20th-23rd and my next period is due Oct. 19th.

I am currently NOT pregnant.

Yesterday was my ovulation day & yes we started TTC yesterday.

So yesterday 10/06/15 I noticed extremely light spotting which I assume was from ovulation but it cleared up so afterwards hubby & I were having sex (doggy style) sorry for the TMI!

After sex I noticed I had started spotting a little more so I decided to put on a pad.

20 minutes later I went to the bathroom to pee and realized my pad was almost full, I dabbed myself with toilet paper and realized the bleeding was coming out dark red and fast and with some blood clots, not even my periods are that heavy. My periods are normally 4 days with the first & last day being spotting and the 2 days in between are medium bleeding so my periods are pretty light.

So this was extremely scary for hubby and I being that we've been together for almost 3 years and this has never happened before.

He is really big down there LoL so we thought he made me tear or something so we went to the ER and they said the bleeding was coming from the cervix and that more than likely it was considered breakthrough bleeding.... I have never had that before either.

Has this happened to anyone before? And is it normal?
