Piercings and pregnancy

Gf has nipple piercings and is having problems with them. They are a bit small around her nipples and they might be infected. But she doesn't want to take them out because the whole may close and doesn't want the pain of re piercing them. I'm afraid of an infection spreading to our unborn child. I'm at a loss here, I don't know what to do?? Will it affect our child if they do or are infected?
