Doula?

Question

My dr suggested I look into getting a doula because I have rods in my back and will be unable to have an epidural. She said doulas are more holistic in pain tolerance techniques and such. Anyone have any input on this or have used one before?

I used to be one and I always recommend them. If your boyfriend or husband doesn't want to be in the room and you don't have family close by (or even if you do), a doula is a wonderful person to have in the room and is there for YOU! A doula is also a great person to be your second voice and stand up for your choices.

I am a doula.
I strongly recommend only getting a certified doula. And interview several carefully. Everyone has a different philosophy and you need one that connects with yours. Also each one has different skills so its important to ask them carefully what they do in the birth room.
Make sure they have a method to encourage dad to participate. I teach through example.. Let them watch me do something a couple times and then ask them if they could do it.. Dad's usually get right into it when guided.

I had one and she wad amazing. I highly recommend having one. I could not have done a 30 hour all natural labor without her.

I would said get one there amazing and will fully help you try to stay relaxed and ignore the pain as much. It helps big time unless you just watch a bunch of videos at home and take notes. Good luck!!

I've never used a doula but i had my son without any medication. It really wasn't that bad. Sure it hurt but I think I was more worked up anticipating the pain than actually in pain lol

Yes! I have had one with all 3 births! If you can't afford one, you can always find one trying to get license. they are volunteers until their licensed. I have never paid for one. Other than a thank you gift that is.
