Hemmroid help! Maybe TMI?

My husband has had a really bad hemmrhoid for the past several days. He tried the cream, suppositories, and the pads... But it only seems to get worse. I feel so bad for him because he can barely walk! And he goes to the bathroom a lot, so I know he irritates it even more By wiping. I told him to wet tissue paper and blot (not wipe) when he uses the bathroom. But is there anything home remedies or anything we could try before making a doc appointment?
