Bad influence or something else

So, a follow up to me and the special guy in my life taking a break. It's been almost 2 weeks since the break, and we've talked off and on. He just snapchatted me and he was using a mod ( vape) and he has never smoked a day in his life. He is 17. Why is he doing this?? He has been hanging out with a bad influence lately, that might be it. But do you think us being apart is actually influencing him this badly? If he wanted to end the break and try and fix us, and get back and all that would by he of by now?!? HELP And he just sad that he is sorry but he just said he is happier without me
