First because I am an animal lover and second, I would be too concerned that it would end up in a shelter and be put down or sent to some neglectful family. And that thought is much worse than the thought of any of my man's exes.

What did the poor dog do to you? It's not the dogs fault. Simply just give the puppy to someone that can provide a good home for him/her. They deserve love and care. If I was in your situation I wouldn't keep the dog, but I would make sure I found a great home for it cause it's a living thing and deserves a good life.
