BabyShower after baby is born..? =\

Question

So aparently my grandmother wants to throw me a babyshower.. For that side of the family .. (Who barley talk to me anyways .. & havent even congratulated me on my pregnancy..) .. & she told me she wanted to wait & have the baby shower after our baby boy is born .. So "everyone can meet the baby.." 
This just sounds odd to me ..! I always thought baby showers were to celebrate your baby to be & to also get a few things to prepare for the arrival of  your baby .. I just don't like the sounds of it .. 
For 1) our baby boy is due February 17th, & the baby shower would end up being right in flu season .. & i hate the idea of bringing him around a bunch of people who could potentionaly be sick ...
 2) i'm a first time mom & it's going to take me a bit to get used to taking care of my newborn myself .. & i dont like the idea of going to a baby shower to pass my baby around ...

Has anyone else had a Baby Shower after their baby was born ...? 
& if so how did it go..?

& before anyone trys to say it .. I'm not being ungrateful , i've just never heard of something like this before ..

I had a baby welcoming party when my daughter was 2 months old.  It worked out great for me bc I live out of state and it made it so everyone saw her one day and I didn't have to deal with visitors everyday of my trip back home.  I also said to keep gifts to a minimum bc I didn't want to lug them back home.  Most people sent gifts to my home prior to her birth.

I'm having one after the baby is born:  it's called a sip and see.  You don't have to do it immediately after the baby's born if you're not comfortable.  Wait till he's like a month old😀

Yeahhhh I wouldn't. Lol but I'm THAT mom. I make people wait to visit and don't go anywhere we don't have to for the first 6 weeks AT LEAST. It's your baby, you have to advocate for it and protect it. If you don't feel comfortable, DON'T DO IT. 🙃

My first we had a "baby shower" when he was about 3 weeks old. It doubled as a little receoption/ party after his baptism so we did it right there in the church and parents/ siblings on both sides of our family got to be there and half of them are out-of-state.

Well I'm sure some people have certain circumstances that would cause for them to have a baby shower after the baby is born like I would have to have one after my girls are born cuz I'm on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy. However...... I completely understand your point of views. I mean is the baby shower really a get together to hold and kiss all on your newborn which is horrible to say the least b

They are becoming more popular they even have a cutesy name "sip and see" where women come and sit around and meet the new baby. If you are uncomfortable just say no. But I def wouldn't do it before 6 weeks at least and even then that's still pushing it. I personally wouldn't want one unless it was my close family and friends who I'm comfortable with
