Do you agree with the idea of Thanksgiving?

Christopher Columbus was a rapist, murderer, theif, and hateful man. Yet we teach our children that he was an explorer and we he should be celebrated. I'm contemplating starting my own tradition when I have children because the idea of him is so evil, we don't have a holiday for Hitler, so why should we have one for him?
