Should I be worried?

I got a birth control implant in January with the hopes of regulating or even stopping my period for 3 years. My periods caused horrible cramps and I had a extremely heavy flow (I'm talking buying new underwear and going through 1 box of SUPER tampons each month kind of heavy.) After two months I was having extremely irregular cycles and my doctor said that would be normal so I didn't worry too much but it has almost been a year and not only are my periods heavy, they can last up to a month. And my cramps are still bad too. My mom refuses to have it taken out because she paid so much for it. But I can't do this anymore and I'm worried that this imbalance of hormones is threatening my relationship with my boyfriend.
