Weight loss help

Hey, so I'm 256ibs. I need to lose weight. I am eating better and controlling my portions. I also have a treadmill and I walk on it everyday for 40-60 min a day. 
I can't run yet. I can run about 2min at a time. Then I have to walk like 10min then run another 2 min. Will this help me in losing weight? 
Please don't be mean. I'm honestly trying
