Sometimes it's something they lack nutritionally, sometimes it's something they just like doing. Some of my customers had their vets prescribe their dogs pills to curb the behavior or they feed their dogs pineapple.

Someone told me its a territorial thing. Idk but my older dog eats poop. She used to eat hers and now she eats her brothers poop. It is so gross. I stop her when i see her even sniffing around a pile. Ive caught her litterally eating it as it was coming out of my other dogs butt, like a soft serve ice cream machine 😑💩

I have read that it is usually to find some source of nutrients that they are lacking in their diet.
What food do they eat?
Consider switching to a more high quality brand of dog food.
My puppy did that when I first got her and then I switched her diet to a much better quality of food and she stopped immediately .

I got a puppy one time, and he was in bad shape.. The owner had him and his siblings sleeping outside with no house. Their mom would not feed them much since she didn't produce much milk either due to not eating. The previous owner was worth 💩 and didn't care about them... When I brought the puppy home, he had plenty of food and water, but he would barely eat it. Instead, he would poop and eat it! I was thinking that maybe that's what he ate and kept his tummy full when he was not fed. He ate his own poop to survive.. So sad.
