Doctor advised against pumping

Danielle
I went to an appointment with my OB and asked for a perscription for a breast pump ( so it would be covered under my insurance ) he told me that he would only prescribe one if I was unable to feed my baby once he arrives. I was really surprised. He then continued to explain to me that since I'm healthy, young and have a healthy child there's no reason to pump. He wants me to always feed directly from my breast for the skin to skin contact and says that it's better for my supply and he thinks that the breast is better than bottles.  Have any of you had a similar reaction from your doctor? And also, what are your reasons for pumping? Mind you my SO is overseas and I won't need to pump for him to feed the baby, I'll be doing it alone.
