Scared

I'm 4 weeks 5 days pregnant, much wanted and wished for baby. I've had the normal cramping and some on/off slight spotting since before I got my bfp but today I went to the toilet and I felt something fall out of me. Looked in the bowl and there was a string of brown stretchy mucus about 3 inches long and thin. I completely freaked out and went to the doctors, she examined me and said my cervix was closed but she could see a couple of blood specks on it. I took a pregnancy test which was still positive. She said she couldn't refer me to the epu until 6 weeks and that this could either be a normal part of pregnancy or it could be early miscarriage and I basically have to wait and see. I went to sleep for a couple of hours when i got home and there was a tiny little bit more mucus on the pad when i woke up. I am absolutely terrified and completely heartbroken at the possibility that I could be losing my baby. Anyone had similar experiences?
