birth control?

I'm 17 and have been with my boyfriend for over a year now. we have sex and use condoms but him and my best friend think it's still a good idea for me to go on birth control. i have very regular and good periods, I don't think I've ever had an issue with my period, so telling my mom I want to go on birth control would make it extremely obvious why I want it, and I don't want her to worry about me or know that I'm having sex. what do you guys think?
