Should This 11 Yr Old Be Kicked Off Cheer Squad?

It is said that in the rules and regulations , cheerleaders are required to have STRAIGHT PONYTAILS . Mom of 11 year old argues that it will ruin her daughter hair if she straightens it . As we can all see , this little girl has BEAUTIFUL hair .

I read the article when it came out about a month ago. I don't think there should be any other regulation other than hair being pulled back out of the face. Straightening can cause damage to hair. There's no reason an 11 year old should be required to do so. However, I wouldn't allow my daughter to cheer if that were a stipulation.

Why is straight hair the cheerleading squad "uniform" stipulation? Why not just pulled back? Straightening can be really damaging to the hair and she could be an amazing attribute to the squad. Why should she have to change her hair texture?

I thought it was such a weird thing for them to get worked up about. I think the person who made the decision probably doesn't understand biracial hair and its texture and how damaging straightening her hair can be. Honestly if all the girls are 11 I don't think any of them should be straightening their hair or be forced to.

I'm a cheerleader in comp and in HS, it shouldn't matter whether it's straight or not. We aren't given points based on how straight our hair is, it just matters that we hit the stunts,jumps, and counts.
