Do you agree?

Question

Last night when all my husbands family was over I was talking to my sister-in-law and I told her I would like to go to college and put my son in day care. She made the comment "I don't plan on getting a job. Why would I have someone else raise my kids when I can raise them myself?". This pissed me off so I told her that I want to make my own income and not have to depend on my husband. What do you agree with? I don't think either one is a bad idea but it made me angry she and to say something like that. Honestly I just think she's lazy. That's why she doesn't want a job.

It kind of sounds like you are judging each other. Neither of those life choices is wrong. They are just different choices for different people.

I don't disagree with either choice. I have a degree and a nursing license. I will decide once we have kids whether I whether I want to continue to work or if I will stay home for a while. The important thing to me is, if something were to happen to my husband, I have the education and the means to make decent money to support myself. That is why I strongly encourage you to not listen to her. I commend your goal and hope you reach it!! Good luck!!

Honestly it's okay for you and her to disagree with what you both want in life. She wants to not have a job and raise her children at home. Wouldn't that be wonderful if we all the luxury? But you as well as I do not have that luxury and must work as well as our spouses to support our families and that's perfectly okay too. I would've punched her :)

I don't necessarily think what she said was the problem as much as how she said it. I may be wrong but some people have no tact when it comes to putting things in a way to duscuss a point rather than to debate a point. Had she said, "I'm choosing to stay home with my kids", rather than the confrontational stand of "Why would you want other people raising your kids?", this conversation could have went completely different.  I don't disagree with either. But words hurt. We should learn to use them better.

I agree with both sides. I plan to be a stay at home mom until my kiddos are in school then I'll either go on to nursing school or use my degree to get a job to help with income. To each his own and one way isn't better than the other

I don't disagree with either. It is smart to have your own degree as a "back up plan" in case your marrage fails if you decide to be dependent, but you don't have to. Unless she said it in a snark tone, it was just her opinion.
