Question about ultrasounds?

Is it normal for ultrasound techs to check your ovaries during an ultrasound? At my 12 week scan the tech pushed extremely hard on my belly which was very painful and uncomfortable.. He said he was checking my ovaries. I didn't have this with previous pregnancies.

They check ovaries for cysts and ectopic pregnancies. Important, but uncomfortable

They did check mine. Had five ultrasounds at 12 weeks due to subchrionic hemmorhage.

But, I think it should not hurt...

Mine checked at each visit, but I do also have a simple cyst that's being monitored. However, they still checked before the cyst was even found.

They didn't with my first but 3 months prior I'd just had laproscopic surgery for endometriosis and they did a dye test.  About 6 months before that I'd gone to the ER with extreme pain round my left ovary and they checked then. It hurt horribly. Turns out it was the endometriosis. I hope they don't do it at my first appt on Fri!

Despite only being 16 weeks, I've had five ultrasounds now and they've checked my ovaries with every one. The month before I got pregnant I had an ovarian cyst burst (hella painful!) and I've a long history of endometriosis, so I expected it anyway.

Yes. They did with my first pregnancy and we learned I had ovarian cysts. 
I'm expecting them to do it again when I go in for this pregnancy.
