Birth control & moms??

I'm 17 & only have had sex with one guy multiple times. We had a couple scares & it completely freaked me out. I never told my mom that I was having sex though. After me & my boyfriend broke up I went to the doctors and she recommended that I go on birth control, my mom flipped out when she heard this. I'm now in a relationship again after a year of being single & im absolutely happy, but I want to be safe this time, I don't exactly know how to bring up birth control to my mom again without her flipping out..any advice?

You can get birth control without her knowing. I believe. But I'm not sure. Just tell her you need it to "regulate" your period. Or just tell her the truth. Tell her you plan on being sexually active.

My mother was the same way. I had my grandmother take it. And when I needed a new form of BC, she wasn't for it but I told her straight up I was going to be having sex with my boyfriend, who is now my husband, and that she can help or she can be a grandma. That solved that delima.

Are you in the US?  If so, there's ways you can get on birth control without your moms permission. In fact you can call you MD and make an appointment without your Mom knowing. When you go see the doctor, just tell her your concerns about your mother finding out. Since you are her patient, she will keep your confidentiality. Your not the first patient they've had with this issue I'm sure. That said, just because your mom tripped on you before, that may have been the first time she's heard brith control and her daughter mentioned in the same sentence. If you give her time to process the idea, that may make all the difference. But only you can make the decision about telling her, I'm only making the suggestion as a mother with a daughter. I could see myself freaking out initially if it's just sprung on me like that but after taking time to think, I'd be on the side of my daughter no matter what. I look at my daughter as this beautiful intelligent creature with a bright future.....so for sure I don't want her getting pregnant before she's ready. I also recall being 17 and soooooo in love, so I can't blame her for her sexuality either. Think about giving your Mom another chance to get it right.
