Just spotting. Do i put i started AF or push late button?

Okay so when you fill your log, it has the first question as spotting. But when your AF starts it has a spotting button you can put too. So like I started spotting today (1/4). I'll probably start actually bleeding tomorrow. So should I put on the 4th that I was late and click spotting or should I say I started but I was just spotting. I don't want to mess up my cycle numbers. It's confusing!
