Please help me!! I need advise.

So it's my birthday and I started my period today... Me and my other half were going to have a really romantic night but now this is in the way... He doesn't care if we have sex while I'm on my period but I personally think it's gross.. Should I let this stop a good romantic night or should I just do it.. What are your thoughts on this please help!!
