Did he lie about finishing

I was having amazing sex with this guy last night and I came like 3 times, I asked him if he had finished and he said "yeah on that last one, I was trying not to for like 20 mins" but like nothing leaked out or anything....and he stayed hard after for a while. we did it again later and he came in like 5 minutes. I feel like he lied the first time. Why would he do that?
