Who else decided against genetic testing?

Question

I've read that it's not accurate and causes more worry than necessary. I'm in my 20's and don't have anything that runs in my family. We're waiting until I'm 20 weeks to have an ultrasound and assuming everything is perfect.
Am I being naive? What's your reasoning for skipping the genetic testing?

I didn't because no matter what the findings it would only cause me to worry. If something was wrong I would worry myself sick the entire time. My sisters son was diagnosed with a whole in his heart or something like that and had to literally have ultrasounds every week. Well the specialist were so wrong he was born perfectly healthy and still is to this day no issues at all. So if the even did find some thing who says it is true anyway. Added worry I think not. Pregnancy is tough as it is. I also know someone who had the test done and nothing showed up and the baby was born with something seriously wrong. So not for me....

I say as long as nothing runs in your family then skip it. During my first pregnancy they found 2 soft markers at the 29 week u/s. One was a choroid plexus cyst and the other was dilated kidneys. The first is a marker for Edwards Syndrome and the other is for Downs. We saw a genetic specialist regularly after that but I still denied the amniocentesis. My genetic specialist asked me plain and simple "would I terminate of it came back positive?" I said nope not a chance so he said why risk it just wait and see what happens. Both things cleared up in the third trimester and I have a happy healthy 8 year old today. Like I said I would only go for it if there was a predisposition for something that is life threatening.

We did not get any genetic testing. It wouldn't have changed anything for us, and wasn't covered on my insurance anyway. My baby has some complications but they are not genetic so they wouldn't have shown up on testing anyway.

I skipped it and have no regrets :) baby is perfectly healthy. We decided since we had no risk factors it wasn't worth the stress. And I wasn't sure the outcome would change anything anyway, so I didn't see the purpose!

I skipped it. It is not like I would have an abortion if I found out something was wrong with my baby, so it is not worth the risks to me.

I don't do it. I'd rather not have a possible positive to worry about and I would never consider terminating. If it was for something treatable that would be different, but for something like Downs, I don't need to know.

We decided that it wasn't necessary for us mostly because it didn't matter. I understand that other mothers have their reasons to do the test, especially  for financial planning.

We talked about it, and if it turns out that our child did require more medical attention after birth, we were in a comfortable financial and emotional position to take it on.
