Wedding vs elopement

Did you have a big wedding or elope? My fiancé and I have known we are going to have a big wedding all along, but now that we are engaged we aren't sure. My parents are making this the most awful experience for both of us by griping about everything and trying to plan our wedding the way they want us to. They keep bitching about how expensive weddings are, and how they aren't worth it. Let me just remind you that WE are paying for our own damn wedding, they are not. We have a large family, making a large wedding party, and they keep telling me it's too large and we need to cute corners, but everyone we've chosen means a lot to us, and we wouldn't have our wedding without them. It's become such a dreaded topic thanks to them, and at this point we are considering our options for a destination elopement so we don't have to deal with it anymore. Thoughts?
