Pre-labor at 38+4weeks?

My midwife started me on eventing primrose oil Sunday and today I've been having major diarrhea. I can't go far from the bathroom at all.  I can also feel baby boy dropping even more. Is this a true sign that labor is near? I hope so! Has anyone ever experienced this and if so, how soon after did you go into labor?
