What kinda of parenting do you have in mind? Strict, easy going?Ftm here!

Question

So I was gifted for the first 5 months of my nieces life. My sister did an amazing job while living with me. She made sure my niece had everything she needed. When my sister needed to get a few things done, of course I was up for auntie time. It really gave me a perspective on what kind of mom I want to be. Now that my son will be here very soon, I'm slowly putting together what kind of mom I want to be. It is hard because I want to baby the crap out of him but don't want him to be very dependent on me when he is older. Of course I will love and nurture because that is a side of me I won't ever refuse but hopefully you know what I mean. How does the balance work? When is the age to stop him being extremely dependent on me? Please be kind in advice I'm still figuring things out. Thank you gals :)

I'm more of a laid back mom but my kids know what is right and wrong so they make it easier on me.

For me I'm between strict and easy going but more towards strict because I want to raise my kids a certain way.. I want to say I started slowly letting them be independent around 6-7 months so they can learn to start exploring, learning how to do basic baby things.. I never really spoiled my kids because I believed it will end up hurting you as they get between 1-2 years old. By age 2 1/2-3, I wanted them to be independent and do majority of things without my help so that way they could learn and not always look for my help.. I don't allow my kids to get away with any and everything.

Trust your instincts every child is different and every parent is different. Take it day by day and you will know which parenting style will work for your family.

In the classes we've taken at the hospital we've been told there is no such thing as spoiling a newborn. After the first 3-6 months, you can slowly allow them to become more independent, help them learn to self-soothe, etc. It's all a long process and there is no flip that switches -- it's different based on the kiddo and their personality too. The process will continue evolving throughout toddler and child years and young adulthood.

Simply the fact that you want to raise your little guy well, you probably will... Just trust your instincts. ❤️

My son is four, and I have to admit I babied the hell out of him, he didn't have a good father figure for the first two years of his life, so I was the sole influence for him. He is a big time mommas boy now, but there is a point where you need to realize, do I baby them in this situation, or do I let it be a teaching opportunity? He is very smart, and he listens incredibly well.. But gosh does he love to cuddle, and is so lovable! There is a happy medium, and it is hard to achieve for some, but just go with your instincts! Some parents let their kids get away with everything, and that's just not our style at all! But he does get plenty of love, and spoiling too!! 💙 you will find your style soon enough momma!
