Episiotomy?

I'm honestly afraid to read the responses because I have a feeling the answers will not be what i want to hear, but for anyone who had an episiotomy, how long did it take before you could function like a normal human being? I'm 3 days post partum and I can barely walk. Going up the steps and getting of the couch is a serious challenge and the pain is really intense. I'm miserable, and I hate not being able to do anything and I'm afraid once hubby goes back to work in a week I won't be able to take care of myself or my daughter. So when did the pain get better? When could you walk normally? 
Also, did anyone have an unwanted episiotomy without reason? My doctor cut me before I had a chance to tell I'm no, and honestly I'm really emotional about it because I feel like he's responsible for my innability to be an efficient mother. I kind of want to do something about it but I'm not sure I can or even where to start. It just doesn't seem fair. Any advice would be great, thank you !

Use the formula!
1. Soak pad on water, wring out. 
2. Apply 1 Tbsp witch hazel
3. Apply 1 Tbsp aloe Vera juice (found at trader joes, possibly Walgreens)
4. 6-10 drops of lavender oil 
5. Wrap in foil and place in freezer. Ready in hours!

You may want gauze to lay on top of the pad so it's not such a shock when you freshly put it on. 
This was my life saver. It'll help you heal faster!

I don't have anything new to recommend but the sitz baths are really soothing, do them multiple times per day. Also, they sell sitz bath sprays which are super helpful in between actual sitz baths. I used witch hazel pads for a few days and also took Motrin regularly. Lastly, my dr told me to apply hydrocortisone cream to the perineum and that helped a lot as well as the numbing spray they give you at the hospital. It took about a week before I was moving around "regularly."

I was exactly like you. After 1-2 weeks I could sit better, and I didn't move at 1mph. At 3-4 I felt almost healed up but still needed to pat dry or VERY carefully wipe. By 6 weeks the scar was barely there at all and I had been back to shaving for a few weeks already. Now around 10 weeks pp and I feel completely normal. Sex is a tinyyyy bit uncomfortable for the first minute but other than that I don't feel much different than before down there. My big changes were in my butt and boobs.

I had one and I was giving Motrin in hospital. The nurse said that the over the counter isn't as strong  and to take three every six hours . If I still had pain in between then I could take a Tylenol. That helped a lot. The girl above gave a great recipe BUT it's only recommended to ice it in the first 24 hours and then you go to heat treatment. Use a sitz bath a couple times a day. Trust me you will feel better. The heat makes you feel GREAT! When my baby was born he went into the NICU a day after birth for breathing issues and stayed there for 4 days! That made everything worse for me. Back and forth to the hospital when I was suppose to be resting. So I think my pain was extended. But I felt better around a week later. Today makes 5 weeks and I feel great! I still feel that something happen down there but nothing like before. And everything looks normal. That was the scariest thing for me. Because the first day I was so so swollen. I never looked at myself because I was too scared but I felt it and wow . Yikes lol. Anyway- have no fear. You will get better! Try to lay on your side and sit at a tilt so you don't put too much pressure. And take maralax (is that the spelling) ... Because taking a poo is scary as hell but you don't wanna get all backed up!

I had one with both kiddos but with my first I still ripped. My dr said I have a high tolerance for pain and I was miserable and could hardly walk. Everyone else had great recommendations and push yourself to get up and move. I think you will start feeling better but don't over do it even once you start feeling better. I had an episiotomy with my first. Mine was necessary because they had to use the vacuum. It took me about 3 to 4 weeks to feel normal again. The thing the help most was sitting directly on an ice pack. Once it was healed it took about a year for me to have feeling back in that spot.

The first week after my episiotomy was hell, the 2nd week was SO MUCH better and I could walk/function with only mild pain. Around 2.5 weeks I got brave to look down there and everything looked normal lol. I'll be 1 month pp tomorrow and I'm feeling completely back to normal & plan to try and have sex this weekend. I promise the healing can and will happen REALLY quickly even though it's miserable for you right now :( I'm sorry! I was really emotional about it also. I didn't get prepared for my episiotomy or have time to deny it. The nurse basically said "your young skin needs to be cut to get him out" and at that time I felt the doctor do it. I hope that you start feeling better. The first week home for me was so emotional, it gets better love

I didn't get an episiotomy but I did have a bad 2nd degree tear. I used witch hazel pads and sitz baths with Epsom salt and healed up really quickly. By 1 week pp I could walk normal and I felt great at 2 weeks pp

I had an episiotomy. I'm 2 weeks out now.. The first 4 days I felt like it would never get better. Couldn't sit, stairs were impossible... but each day I woke up after that it really did start to feel okay. The sitz baths are crucial. I'd recommend doing them at least once a day, twice if you can and just taking hot showers. I also took Motrin to help with pain/swelling and iced the area each evening. If you do too much during the day you'll notice it's worse at night. So enjoy your little one, get an ice pack and let the house be dirty. You'll get through it Momma!
