Equality for equalities sake
I'm reading a lot lately about how women are not represented in equal amounts in some areas, and the same goes for people of differing sexualities being represented in unequal amounts (i.e. heterosexuals being represented far more than say transgender or gay people) etc. I think the representations should be equal to that of the general public. But then I think regardless of gender, sexual orientation etc the best person for the job or position should be picked - with no bias being given to any personality factors. I don't want to achieve something and be written off as someone that just got given a promotion or whatever because I'm female, regardless of whether I earnt it.
I'm in two minds about this and interested in what others think. I think the way the issues of inequality are reported makes them seem trivialised. What do you think?
