Do You Think Parents Should Be Involved In Their Childs Sexual Education?

Question

Seen plenty of young females on here, and some older women ask some alarming questions. We are NOT perfect. What are your views on sexual and reproductive health education? Feel free to leave comments I want to see everyone's opinions :)

My parents had no part in my sexual education and it was the worst thing they ever did. When I got my period, I thought I was pooping myself because the dried blood in my underwear was brown. I had no idea, and I was freaked out and had no one to talk to because my parents and I didn't talk about that type of stuff, ever. When she saw it while doing laundry, some pads showed up in my room and that was the extent of it.
When she found out I had sex way too early (13), instead of talking to my about relationships and safe sex, and waiting for the right person, she decided it was better to ground me for a year instead. I wasn't allowed to see friends before or after school, and she made me walk to her work and sit there for my lunch hour so I couldn't socialize with anyone. She did this to end my relationship and make sure that I wouldn't be able to do it again.
I resented her. I became severely depressed and started cutting myself and turned to drugs. I moved out at 16 into a house with three guys in their early 20's called 'the party palace'. I then dropped out of school after grade 11.
To think that all of that could have been prevented if she kept an open line of communication going with me, and just taught me about sexual health and relationships instead of just punishing me for something I didn't know was wrong. I deffinitely plan on talking to my children about sexual health and maintaining an open, honest relationship with them to ensure they make smart decisions, and I encourage all other parents to as well.

Yes parents should.. It's our children and as long as their minors then we should educate them to have safe sex, STDs, reproductive system, etc.. As a mother, I will talk to my son once he's old enough to understand. I want him to hear everything from me first then for him to hear it at school first. As a mother it is my responsibility to talk to him about the different chNges that his body will go through. It's not the teachers responsibility, it is mine because I'm raising him and talking to him about the topic is something that will help him and will be with him for the rest of his life.

I definitely think so, the fact that my mom and dad were open with me helped me make better choices. I wasn't afraid to ask them for birth control or voice my concerns about being pressured into sex when I was in high school and things of that sort. Me being less afraid to confide in them allowed them to trust me more when it came to spending time with boys because we had a really genuine discussion about it.

Ever since I was 13 years old my parents and I have talked about sex. They know that schools don't teach enough in sex end so they told me everything I needed to know about sex, STDs, teen pregnancy, STIs, practicing safe sex etc. They have done the same thing with my two younger sisters. I am so thankful that my parents did that for me because half the things they told me about they didn't even mention in sex ed. And it really made me comfortable enough to tell them about it when I lost my virginity, and talk to them about other personal things as well. I will be teaching my kids about sex because the school system doesn't do enough.

We can't assume others will teach our children for us, or teach them what we want them to learn. Better us than the girl next door!! Lol

We didn't talk about sex. I was just expected to not have sex, without reasoning as to why, because I was raised in a semi Christian house hold. I had sex at 14, by lying and going to a party, because I thought I was missing something and would feel cooler, more mature. 
We will definitely explain to our children why sex is a sacred act and that their bodies are very special and should be saved for the one person they truly love, hopefully. We want to be completely open and honest.

I definitely agree with Diana. Although I don't have kids myself I have my 14 year old brother who has a girlfriend. We've had talks about sex. I did it honestly because my parents never talked to me about when I was younger. It was a little hard for me at first to approach him because he is my brother but at the same time I had to realize he is in my care until he's 18 and I don't want him not being informed.

Yes, my mom never taught me anything.. I only knew about sex and periods because of school and the classes that taught me
