What's a stone?

Can someone please explain to me to what the hell a stone is? Like, "I've lost two stone so far this pregnancy." I seriously thought it was a joke at first. How is it measured and in what part of the world is this being used? Am I the only uneducated person who has no idea what this is?

1 stone is equal to 14lbs..its a British form of measurement.. I have some Australian friends that speak of stones and also in England.. I'm from US I've just heard it used a lot in weight loss

It's a British term for a specific amount of weight. Like how pound = 16 oz

14lbs = 1stone, easy. I'd need a calculator to work out my weight in lbs but I know I was 15st 4lbs at last weigh in. I'm in Wales, if anyone gives me my height n weight in cms n lbs, I ask what that is in normality n they tell me in feet, inches, stones n pounds lol
