Paci or no paci?

My son learned very early on how to soothe himself by sucking on his fingers so we didn’t feel the need to give him a pacifier. What works/worked for your child/children, please share your experience!

I was always told to give the pacifier because you can take that away when they are older, you can't take their fingers away to make them stop sucking. It can cause dental problems when they're older

My daughter used her pacifier until she was 6 months old. She weened herself off. I never tried to keep her away from them, because they are said to reduce the chance of SIDS even more because the constant sucking motion reminds babies to breathe when they are asleep. And also if it has a bulky handle on the pacifier & the baby rolls onto its stomach, the bulky handle provents their nose from going into the mattress & therefore reduces the chance of suffocation.

My loves his paci and it was given to him very early on in the NICU. We do good to get it out of his mouth sometimes! However, I have no problem with it.

We have chosen a paci  over sled soothing with hands.  Personally I sucked my thumb until I was sick,  which was embarrassing!  You can take a paci  away but can't  take their fingers away...

I sucked my two fingers when I was little and my mom tried everything to get me to stop, but I continued up until around 11 years old! I ended up with crooked bottom teeth and an overbite. So...I'm giving all my children pacifiers. You can't take away a thumb or fingers and many pacifiers (like Nuk) don't affect the teeth like a thumb or finger does. Plus they do help reduce the likelihood of SIDS. My first daughter had a pacifier until she was 2.5 and was very attached, but we were able to take it away slowly without any issues. Her teeth are perfect.

My daughter has never liked pacifiers for their intended purpose. She's always spit them out. But she loves the ones that are all soft to turn sideways and use as a chew toy.

My baby is a hand sucker. I don't like paci's so I wasn't going to do them. I did however give her one once and she hated it, which I loved. Tossed those in the trash real quick lol.

My girl was a gand sucker. She started to get raw hands so i gave her a pacifier. In my mind taking a pacifier when older away is easier then taking a hand away.

We don't do paci. I did with my first son, and he threw his away aged 3 1/2. With my youngest we decided not to, in case he spits it out during sleep.
