Can I use makeup?

Question

I just found out that I am pregnant for the first time and reading on internet I have seen a lot of sites that says that I should avoid makeup. Is that true? What kind of makeup do you use? People in this site look very amazing so please give me some tips. God bless you all!!!

Omg at this rate what the hell CAN a pregnant woman do lol. I've been wearing makeup and my baby is developing perfectly. I've also drank coffee, dyed my hair, and *gasp* eaten lunch meat !

They say that because you generally  absorb about 60% of whatever you put on your skin, and a lot of makeup contains heavy metals and a long list of chemicals. However, while its always a good idea to go a more natural route, I don't think that wearing makeup is going to have much of an effect on anything to do with your baby. I think it would be a bit overkill to rule out makeup, for sure. It's just good to be aware of what you're putting on your skin and opt for more natural products in general :)

Actually the make up here in the states has so much stuff in use that isn't good for us in general. Other countries outlaw so many ingredients that we allow in ours. I am a make up artist and I actually use airbrush simply because it is water based. Another great line to use is younique. I know that they are pricey but they both have great coverage and no harsh chemicals in it. It is also great for pregnancy acne

I use Younique and love it but even though it passes European cosmetic standards (SUPER HIGH compared to the States) it makes my face break out to kingdom come cause my hormones are so out of whack.

Definitely stay away from retinols (definitely bad) and probably salicylic acid too as a precation (they know aspirin, a related compound, is bad when taken orally, there haven't been studies for topical safety for salicylic acid).

To be honest, I'd just go on WebMD and check for pregnancy skincare.

And stay off of the mommy blogs generally. There is a lot of "I don't understand this word, therefore it is baaad" fear mongering for pregnant women out there where people spout pseudo science like it is gospel.  Specifically beware the people who are trying to sell you things. I've seen multiple people on here trying to peddle "natural" products on here "because they are so much safer because they don't  contain chemicals!" I'm a chemical engineer and trust me, they don't know their rears from their elbows. Literally everything is made of chemicals. Water is a chemical. Chemicals, be they natural or man-made can be healthy and safe or deadly, regardless of their source.

I also wear all Younique. Great coverage, no harsh chemicals and I am able to use very little product to get great coverage.
