Months vs years

Does it irritate anyone else when people refer to their kids as being 24 months old? 2.... Your child is 2. Sometimes I understand the 18 months etc but that does also equate a year and a half. It just gets alittle ridiculous. Lol. Why do people do that? Not wanting their kid to grow up or?
