What can the flu do to my unborn baby?

My dad got his shot this year and I didn't, and now he has a nasty case of the flu. He's staying in his room and I'm staying in mine buts incense live together I'm afraid of touching doorknobs or eating anything from the fridge since I don't have my shot and my doctors office isn't offering it anymore (we live in a tiny town, it's a tiny office) so I'm wondering if I do start seeing symptoms, what do I do? What can it do to my little girl? I'm 21 weeks 1 day, and super paranoid first time mother.

I just got over the flu myself. I was 32 weeks at the time. I went to labor and delivery ER. They tested me and it came back positive. I was also dehydrated due to I could barely breathe due to the crazy congestion I didn't drink. So they admitted me over night treating me for the flu, dehydration, also caused a uti from not being able to drink. I haven't been able to sleep flat in over a week now have to be proped up so I can breathing. Anyway after 24 hrs I felt tons better with the IV and tons of congestion meds they put me on. They procribed me timaflu, an antibiotic, and have me taking Benadryl and musanex for 10days. This all happened the 14-15th of this month.

So anyways if you do get it don't wait go get treated or you won't be able to get the tamiflu which helps a lot. You have to get that with in 48 hrs of simptoms.

If your dad got the flu shot but got the flu he might have a different strain so you would still get it even with the flu. Just wash your hand often and clean when you can. You will be fine though

If you do end up getting the flu, it's important to stay hydrated and to control your fever as best you can. I believe it's the high fever that isn't good for the baby, but I'm not positive. Do you have a Walgreens or CVS somewhat near by? They may still be able to give you the flu shot if they have stock left. Make sure you get the preservative free one. Otherwise, use Lysol wipes and disinfect as best you can.

Well you could get a flu shot. Otherwise just practice good hygiene. If you get sick, you get sick. There's not much to say for the effect on unborn children.

There have been a couple studies that reported a correlation between pregnant women who didn't get the flu shot and complications during pregnancy, like premature labor/miscarriage, but correlation does not equal causation.
